Joel spent the day working. The kids explored the campground. Caleb found massive sugar pine cones.

Once Joel was done work we headed back to the Giant’s Grove in Sequioa National Park. We went to a ranger talk at the General Sherman tree. We walked into the tree and the talk was supposed to start at 3pm so Isla asked if we were in the right place and he said yes. There was maybe 50 people all in a line waiting to take their picture in front of the tree and he announced he was going to give a talk about the General Sherman tree if anyone wanted to listen – it was so odd that no one listened. It was like everyone was just in a rush to get their picture in front of the tree and get out of there as quick as possible. Their loss though because we spent the next 30 minutes learning all about the largest living thing on earth and got all our questions about sequoias answered.

After learning about the General Sherman tree we hiked the Congress Trail. Did you know that something like 95% of people who visit National Parks only travel 0.5miles from the visitors center when exploring the park? It’s surprising how easy it is at most of these parks to be alone to really enjoy things.
